New Television Sets - Old Movies

So you've gone out and purchased a brand-new  high-definition or 3D television set and a surround system to boot. You're also looking forward to friends and family gathering to view old home movies on your new entertainment set up. What many people realize shortly after having a new television and surround system installed is that their old VCR's either don't look up to their new television set because that set does not contain the necessary ports or that their old home movies look and sound extremely poor on modern equipment.

This is because modern television sets and sound systems are 100% digital and as a result expose the flaws in recorded videos from years and decades past. The limitations of old recording equipment can be a real detriment to the viewing experience and a big letdown as well. What many people don't realize however is that there is a way to fix this.

By transferring old home movies to a more modern medium such as a DVD or even Blu-Ray disc, individuals can have the professional handling the transfer enhance their video's vibrancy, contrast, and even work with some color correction. Sound too can be enhanced though audio and video enhancements are limited somewhat by the original recording. Even with some limitations however the transfer and its enhancements will allow for a far greater viewing experience on modern audio and video equipment than a VCR does.

8mm Flims & Vinegar Syndrome

There many reasons to transfer old 8mm movies to DVD, among those the most important being to preserve family memories and to make storage of such movies more convenient and safe. One of the most often overlooked reasons however remains one of the most dangerous and poses the highest risk to old films.

This risk is known as vinegar syndrome and is essentially a terminal illness for all 8mm films that contract it. Vinegar syndrome sets in quite easily on 8mm movies that reside in storage spaces that aren't airtight and secure. Sadly the majority of all the movies wind up in boxes that sit in garages full of moisture, extreme heat, and bugs/insects.

Once vinegar syndrome sets in 8mm films become brittle and eventually crumbles away to dust rendering them unplayable. The only way to avoid losing your old home movies to vinegar syndrome is to transfer them to a more modern medium such as DVD discs. DVD's do not contract vinegar syndrome nor any other form of decay. So long as they are stored properly and kept away from direct sunlight, DVDs will last several lifetimes.

Should you have old 8mm films that need transferring please be sure to contact us that we may be of assistance.

Preserve Your Family's Holiday Memories Today!

With the holidays firmly behind us and spring well on its way, have you considered having the movies you took during the holidays placed on a format that is reliable, easy-to-use, and built to last a lifetime? Even movies shot on digital cameras and then downloaded to a computer are in danger of being deleted or becoming corrupted some point. Computers can crash and viruses and spyware can take their toll on files which means your memories don't stand a chance.

Preserving your family's memories, even recent ones, is an important part of everyone's lives. Not only do we reminisce about holidays past but technology now allows us to view those holidays as well. Many families make the mistake of shooting holiday videos and then storing them either on a computer when shot digitally or in a box that resides in a basement closet somewhere when shot on traditional film. Both storage ideas present a number of dangers and can easily result in the loss of irreplaceable memories.

This is why it's important to transfer both digital movies and movies shot on VHS, Betamax, and 8mm film to a durable and resistant medium like the DVD. DVD's hold a large amount of data and are extremely resilient against the problems that plague both digital files and those shot on traditional types of film.

Should you wish to preserve your family's memories contact us so that we may help you transfer them to DVD.

Increasing TV Resolutions And Old Home Movies

Television technology, specifically resolutions, are increasing at an amazing rate. There is of course standard definition televisions that boast a modest resolutions of 480i and standard high-definition televisions which display images in both 720p and 1080p.

While many people are still adjusting to these higher resolutions and upgrading their home entertainment equipment and even their home videos so that they can be played on this equipment, the industry is already pushing out higher resolutions making it tough for some consumers to keep up. The newest resolution seen on a few TV's but mostly on computer monitors is 1440p. Consumers can expect resolutions as high as 4320p sometime within the next 3 to 4 years.

What this essentially means is that any home videos you might have that look good or even passable on today's television sets aren't going to look that good or be watchable on television sets that are due for release in the next few years. This is why it's important to have your videos corrected, upscaled, and placed onto mediums like DVDs and Blu-Ray discs.

Should you have any questions about moving your movies over to DVD please be sure to contact us!

Let Your 8mm Transfer Be A Gift This Season

In the past we've talked about how transferring VHS to DVD makes a great holiday gift. This time we're going to switch gears a bit and talk about 8mm to DVD transfers and how they too make wonderful gifts. If VHS is considered and old format by today's standards, then 8mm films must be considered archaic in terms of technical ability and quality. In fact many 8mm films have no sound and carry only moderate video quality at best.

8mm films have always been somewhat difficult to watch as they require proper lighting and a flat white surface or screen but these days it can be downright inconvenient and nearly impossible to watch old movies on 8mm film. The format is so old that those who wish to view such a movie may no longer have a working projector nor might they be able to locate one. Projector repairs are costly as they're based on obsolete technology and you've still got to create a dimly lit room or wait for the evening to roll around before you can view the film.

These issues make transferring 8mm to DVD a great idea and an even better gift. We all know someone who's got old home movies stored away or lying around so get them out and get them transferred! The holidays are just a couple of months away!

Be sure to contact us when you're ready to transfer your films to DVD!

What Are You Waiting For?

As the years roll on and technology moves forward at an ever-increasing rate, archaic technologies such as the VCR become not only more difficult to find, should somebody wish to purchase one, but professionals who can repair such machines have become just as difficult to find as the technology itself.
Chances are however that if you're over 20 years old you're likely in possession or at least know of some home movies of your family that reside on VHS cassettes. You also know just how inconvenient it is to not only pull your VCR out of storage and hook it up to a modern entertainment center but how bad it looks on the television sets of today as well.
With the VCR technology and its technicians all but obsolete and nonexistent now is a good time to consider having those home movies that you know of or are in possession of transferred to DVD. Not only will this allow you to watch them anytime you like on modern equipment but the video and audio will also be improved and the movies can be stored in a much more economical manner. Furthermore DVDs aren't subject to the same kind of decay that VHS cassettes are so what are you waiting for? Begin your transfer today!
Be sure to contact us should you want to move your old home movies from VHS to DVD.

Video Transfer Services Vs. The Do It Yourselfer

Despite the VHS format having been obsolete and completely dead for the better part of a decade now, there are still a huge number of people who have a large collection of movies and home movies on VHS. Personal mementos like birthday parties, weddings, holidays, bar mitzvah's, and vacations are more common on VHS and they aren't DVD simply because the VHS format was the dominant format for the better part of three decades. The DVD format, while existing in the early 90s, didn't really catch on commercially until the late 90s and the early part of the new millennium.
For the many individuals who have precious family mementos sitting on VHS cassettes, determining how to protect them, where to store them, and how to watch them conveniently on modern equipment are all constant concerns. Over the last decade however technology has afforded such individuals with the ability to transfer their VHS movies over to a much more durable medium, the DVD. In addition to the new technologies that have made this type of transfer possible, many companies have popped up that offer transfer services. Having a professional transfer home movies to the DVD format affords individuals a number of advantages though not everyone takes advantage of these.
There are a large number of people who opt to transfer their home movies to DVD themselves. While the process itself is an overly difficult or complicated, and amateur transfer will always be subpar to that of a professional one. With professionals, individuals will receive a transfer service that includes some type of video and audio enhancement as well as corrective measures that enhance the viewing experience on modern equipment. More often than not at home or do-it-yourself transfers are done on very inexpensive equipment and underpowered computers which results in a poor to average transfer.
Some individuals simply don't trust professionals with their home movies while others choose to do it themselves simply because they believe it to be the more affordable solution. Individuals who transfer home movies to DVD themselves will need a fairly powerful PC and a large hard drive. They will also need a DVD burner in that computer and a video capture card with video in and video out functionality. They'll also need play a blank DVDs as well as software capable of capturing and editing the video that a VCR plays into their computer. By the time a do-it-yourselfer puts all this together they will have usually spent just as much and sometimes more so than they would have had they just contacted a professional to handle the transfer for them. Moreover it takes time to set all these things up inside the home and time to learn how to use everything efficiently. Professional transfer services generally present a finished product in just a couple of days so it's not difficult to see why the do-it-yourself crowd has been slowly but steadily shrinking over the past decade.
Be sure to contact us when you have questions about or are in need of a transfer!
